Car & Van Rental at Cavan
An attractive market town, Cavan is handily situated next to the junction serving the N3 and the N55, both major roads. It lies approximately midway between Enniskillen and Dublin, making it the ideal base for exploring both sides of the border. What's more, the county town of Cavan has a thriving music and arts scene. Touring the area's scenic routes is easy as Enterprise is located on the Dublin Road, just to the east of the town. Said to have been founded in the early fourteenth century by the King of Breifne, Cavan has a wide range of accommodation to suit all budgets and tastes, from top-class hotels to self-catering properties.

As well as the standard options, there is also a range of commercial vehicles to choose from. Attractions in Cavan
Cavan is deservedly renowned for being a regular host of the all-Ireland Fleadh, a traditional Irish song and dance festival. Within the town, both the Arts Space at the town hall and Cavan Arts Office, on Farnham Street, are well worth visiting. There are also a number of good restaurants and bars. Cavan has some attractions which are a short drive from the town itself and with a car, the area really does offer that bit more to visitors. A good case in point is the award-winning Cavan County Museum, which is about a twenty-minute drive from the town. Located in Ballyjamesduff, it is set in a wonderful Georgian period building and has a playground for children, a delightful tea room and holds regular events. Closer to home is Con Smith Park which is a great location for families, including an accessible play area as well as an outdoor gym for fitness-focussed adults.
Places to Visit Outside Cavan
As mentioned, Cavan is often chosen as a base for touring holidays. As well as the many great country walks that can be accessed from the town, it is a good starting point for water exploration. Touring the stunning Lough Oughter waterway by canoe is a popular pastime. A fifteen-minute drive north on the N3 brings you to Buttersbridge where you can hire boats, take part in guided canoe tours, or even try your hand at paddle boarding. Heading out on the R179 to Carrickmacross, in the far east of the county, brings visitors to the pleasant Dun Na Ri Forest Park which has four marked trails, picnic benches and some interesting sculptures. In the other direction, the Slieve Russell Hotel offers a world-class spa and wellness centre – the ideal thing for a spot of relaxation after enjoying all of the activities on offer.
Airport Car Hire
Although Cavan has no airport of its own, many business and leisure visitors to the town arrive via one of the nearby hubs. Enniskillen Airport is the closest, followed by Sligo Airport and Ireland West Knock Airport. For air travellers, hiring a car to get to Cavan is a good option. This can be much more convenient and save a great deal of time when compared to other travel options, such as relying on public transport.
Parking and Traffic Information in Cavan
The roads around Cavan and throughout the county are generally in good condition. The main arterial routes are well maintained and any works on them tend to be publicised well in advance. Being a market town, Cavan gets busy on weekends, so it is best to try and avoid driving through the main street on a Saturday afternoon. Other than that, few hold-ups are experienced unless the weather conditions force drivers to slow their pace. Because it is popular with shoppers, there is plenty of parking in the town. Expect to see several pay-and-display car parks in central Cavan, with free on-street parking afforded to visitors on the outskirts of the town. At certain hours, some car parking is free in the town, but visitors should ensure they have parked in a marked bay properly and that they do not exceed the number of free hours they are allowed.
